How to Earn Your Google Ads Certification

Want to get a Google Ads Certificate? Learn how to get certified in Google Ads in this step-by-step guide.

The Google Advertising Certificate is one of the most trusted merchant certificates.

This is one of the few standard ways to demonstrate a certain level of knowledge or objective significance.

While it's not a special badge, achieving it requires a certain level of work to learn the concepts or experience of using Google ads on a daily basis.

What is a Google Advertising Certificate?

Google Advertising Certification is the process by which Google recognizes merchants as experts in online advertising.

After passing the Advertising Certification Exam, people earn a custom certificate - and if they're associated with a company, they can contribute to obtaining Google Partner credentials.

Like many Google products, assets, and initiatives, this program has evolved over the years.

The degree program used to be a separate program and its costs were related to taking the exam.

This has changed with the creation of the Google Partner Program, and evolved in 2018 with the transition to Google Academy for Ads and the recently redesigned Skillshop.

Personal authentication still works the same way a few years ago with training and quiz content before Google AdWords was renamed Google Ads.

However, the links to the Google Partner Program, the transition to a single platform, and other changes in recent years can be huge for both individuals and students.

Over the years, certification has also become a minimum or anticipated requirement for agencies and companies in entry-level search marketing roles.

Even when I hire someone to take over our training program, I know he is willing to invest time, and I believe that the importance of reinforcement is proof.

Getting this basic exposure level from Google is more specific than a textbook on Google's advertising performance.

In addition, it's worth being able to contact an already recognized person with my company's Google Partner account.

This step-by-step guide explains how to get ad approval, as it can be a confusing process when you do it for the first time or when you come back and encounter the new system and see the academy.

Step 1: Create or select your Google Account

First, select the appropriate Google Account to obtain the certificate.

If you work for an agency or company, you will need to use your work email address.

If you are an individual and manage the certificate yourself, we recommend that you choose a Google Account that you want to personally and publicly associate with your testimony.

This can be a Gmail account or a Google Account that you link to any personal email account.

Step 2: Start an academy

When your Google Account is unavailable, be sure to sign out of another Google Account.

Like some other Google products, you may experience confusion or difficulty now that you're signed in to multiple accounts.

If you only want to use the certificate that your account is signed in to, go to

Here you can find the specific certificate you want to start and click on it.

Read the report information for the selected certificate.

When you're ready to go, click the Start button.

You may be asked to re-authenticate to the Google Account you have set up and want to use.

If this is your first time at the academy, the Terms of Service will also be submitted to you for acceptance.

Once you receive the certificate, you'll see the option to share the certification status of your account with your company and Google Partner account more on this later.

If you are not a Google partner or affiliate of the company, you can select No and skip this process. You can also continue with step 5.

Step 3: Prepare for the exam

Google provides both basic educational information and the most comprehensive learning materials.

Typical Google advertising certificates include:

  1. Search
  2. Display
  3. Measurement
  4. Video
  5. Shopping advertising
  6. Apps

If you're new to the Advertising and Certification Exam, I suggest you start with the Google Advertising Search Certificate first.

Search ads are usually the most popular type of ad your business will display.

But if you only pay more attention to something like shopping, then start from there.

The training material is linked to each of these special certificates.

By clicking on any of them, you will be offered options to get started, including a quick assessment of knowledge, followed by other resources.

You will need to plan at least some time to learn the study materials.

If you're running an ad campaign or you have deep performance, reviewing items is still a good idea - even if you do it quickly.

The sample questions are very useful - they are written in the same format as they appear in real tests.

Skip the study material unless you are pre-certified and or have moderate advertising experience.

Step 4: Pass the assessment

To obtain a certificate, you will need to pass an assessment at any of the relevant certification companies.

Your certificate will then be awarded to this specific product focus area.

You can hold a master's degree or continue to complete additional specialties until you have mastered and acquired all the desired related subjects.

If you take a higher level exam or love standardized exams, there is no evidence that you can't take them all.

Note that if one of the tests fails, you must try again. That is the real punishment for not being released.

Step 5: (Optional) Contact Google partners

Disclaimer: Google Partner Program requirements will change in 2021. The update was released until mid-2020, but was delayed. This information is typical of the current process after the 2021 updates.

If you'd like to link your personal account to your business in order to receive credit from Google partners and other related benefits, you'll need to share your account with the business.

If you skip a step or say no, you can go back and do it now.

When logging in to Academy, click on the user icon in the upper right corner, then on My Profile.

You can then click Edit Profile in the upper right corner. On this page, you see the opportunity to share your business again.

This process requires you to fill in your profile information, which validates your business and links it to everything.

On the other hand, to verify a Google Partner, the administrator of your Google Partner profile will need to make sure that he or she has created a user account for you with Google Ads and that he or she links it to the Google Ads Partners tab. 

This account must be linked to a partner company's primary account, as Google uses this account to reconcile your academy account.

Then note that this process is planned to change in 2021, depending on the requirements of a partner's position.


When you have completed the degree, you should be proud of your achievements. Although it requires certification by many recruitment managers and companies, it still tries to browse educational content and or work in advertising for some time.

Depending on your role and career path, these can be great additional certificates and large sums to earn.

Pay attention to when test certificates expire so that they can be renewed in a timely manner.

Partner companies can acquire special large companies based on related persons who have passed additional examinations in specific sub-sectors, which provide value to both the certified person and the company.
